Some say Stratford’s low inventory of commercial real estate presents a “barrier to entry”. – Natural Self Esteem

STRATFORD — Many business owners see Stratford as a business-friendly city.

It’s one of the more affordable communities in Fairfield County, which is a benefit for the city, according to economic development director Mary Dean. Stratford also has access to public transportation, with the train station downtown and its easy access to Interstate 95.

However, a barrier to entry for local businesses is a limited inventory of available commercial real estate, some say.

The city has taken some steps to alleviate this, Dean said. They recently asked the Zoning Commission to impose a moratorium on new self-storage facilities that occupy large areas with limited parking spaces that make it difficult to recycle the properties for other uses in the future, she said.
